Relentlessly Fun, Deceptively Educational I have really enjoyed our summer, and wish it weren’t ending so quickly! Very fun, active, visual learning! Mike’s cousin works there and invited us on her day off, so we got a private tour!Īs fun as the museum was, the real highlight, of course, was spending time with Mike’s family! The kids thoroughly enjoyed their time with Gramma, Aunt L, their Great-Grandma, and Mike’s aunt and cousins! It was very fun to celebrate Mike, Anna, and Lily’s birthdays with family – and they had a repeat celebration with my brother and his family last night! I didn’t get a chance to make the cake Lily and I planned, so we may have a third celebration this week, just so we can make the cake! Maybe it will be an end of summer, back to school cake – the theme works for that, and we have to go back to school next week. Johnny was especially interested in this giant marble run! The wheels he is turning control the angles of the ramps. The museum is very well-staffed, and everyone was very friendly. There is also a store, and a bank where kids can deposit paper checks into an ATM. There are several places that kids can build or design something and then test it out or even take it home.We drove down to Las Vegas to visit Mike’s family last week, and while we were there we enjoyed visiting the new Discovery Children’s Museum in Las Vegas! I love a good children’s museum, and this one was great – one of the best I’ve seen, in fact! They had three floors full of hands-on activities, including invention stations where the kids could build flying machines and test them out and an arts and crafts area for painting and other creating. And the art and building exhibits were a hit. We loved the marketplace where kids can build houses, repair a car, shop for groceries, take care of animals and more. Each level of the museum had different types of hands-on learning. We spent several hours at the museum exploring and enjoying the different exhibits. Plus, there were dryers for anyone who needed them. They did get a bit wet but dried really quickly. The room has ponchos that the kids can put on but my boys were too busy having fun. There were several activities and fun things to do with water. I think we could have stayed in there the entire day and my boys wouldn’t have been tired of it. We loved the touchable dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes, including a Tyrannosaurs Rex and a Triceratops, digging for dinosaur bones, making fossil impressions, exploring caves and dressing up as giant bugs! Now through Sept 16th, the museum has a traveling exhibit, Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice. They even got to experience a hurricane simulator with winds up to 85 mph. My boys had a great time climbing up to the top of the museum through a series of ladders and tunnels with level after level of educational activities. The DISCOVERY Children’s museum is a perfect blend of fun and learning, and in reality, kids don’t even realize how much they are learning while they are having fun. I received tickets to visit the museum and the traveling exhibit Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice exhibit, and knew that my boys would love it. For our last weekend before school started we had the chance to visit the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum in Las Vegas.
